Question : “If a person suffers from gum disease can they with correct treatment and following advise from dentist become free of this problem?”

Answer : “Yes, if a patient suffering from gum disease is treated correctly and if the patient follows the guidance of dental care professionals they can be ‘free’ of this problem but will need lifelong maintenance and monitoring to make sure the patient does not relapse and if they do we can guide them and help them to control the disease and return to a maintenance phase”

Tackling the Toothpaste Minefield

The first thing we always recommend is picking a toothpaste that contains fluoride. This is because this mineral is absolutely vital for helping to fight against tooth decay as it works to remineralise the enamel. Beware of some of the more natural varieties of toothpaste as many of these do not contain fluoride.

Sensitive and Whitening Toothpastes

Two of the options that will stand out the most will be sensitive and whitening varieties of toothpaste. Of course, if you do have sensitive teeth we would recommend trying one of the brands designed to help with this. However, it is even more important to book a dental check-up if you are experiencing tooth sensitivity. We may be able to get to the bottom of the problem and/or help you to choose the perfect toothpastes (and other products) to help alleviate the symptoms.

Many people crave a brighter, whiter smile. If this sounds like you, speak to us about the best way to achieve the smile of your dreams. With the combination of tooth whitening treatment and some toothpaste recommended by us, you will feel ready to dazzle the world!

Make it Age Appropriate

Back to the toothpaste aisle….If you are choosing toothpaste for the whole family, be sure to check the recommended ages on each tube. Due to the levels of fluoride, children under the age of 6 should not use a toothpaste that is designed for adults. Select age appropriate products and always use a pea-sized amount when you brush your teeth.

If you’d like to discuss the brands and types of toothpaste that we recommend here at Bamford Dental Practice, just give us a call on 01706 527700 to book an appointment – we look forward to seeing you!
