Invisalign® First is a clear aligner system designed specifically for children aged around 7 to 10, while they still have a mix of baby and adult teeth. It is used for early, or “interceptive”, orthodontic treatment to help guide the growing jaw, widen narrow arches and create space for adult teeth to come through. The aligners are smooth, removable and made to fit your child’s teeth comfortably.
Many orthodontic concerns can be spotted from around the age of 7, when the first adult teeth start to come through. An early assessment doesn’t always mean your child will need treatment straight away. In many cases, we simply monitor their development and recommend the best time to begin. If early treatment would be beneficial, we will explain why and talk you through the options.
Signs that your child may benefit from an assessment include crowded or overlapping teeth, large gaps, front teeth that stick out, a crossbite, difficulty biting or chewing, or baby teeth that are lost very early or very late. Habits such as prolonged thumb sucking can also affect how the teeth and jaw develop. If you have any concerns, our team will be happy to take a look.
Early treatment with Invisalign® First aims to create a healthier foundation for your child’s adult teeth, which can reduce the complexity of any treatment needed later on. Some children will still benefit from a second phase of treatment once all their adult teeth have come through, often with Invisalign® for Teens. We will monitor your child as they grow and let you know if any further treatment is recommended.
Yes. Invisalign® First aligners are designed with younger patients in mind, and most children adapt to wearing them quickly. We will show both you and your child how to insert, remove and clean the aligners, and parents can easily help with aligner changes at home. Remote Dental Monitoring check-ins also allow our team to support you between appointments.
NHS orthodontic treatment for children is based on clinical need and is not usually provided at this early stage of development. Invisalign® First is offered as a private treatment at Bamford Dental Practice. Your Consultation
Your child’s journey begins with a relaxed, child-friendly consultation, where we take time to put them at ease. We will examine how their teeth and jaws are developing, discuss any concerns you have noticed and explain whether early treatment would be beneficial. A quick, mess-free 3D digital scan replaces traditional impression trays, so there is no unpleasant goo. We can then show you and your child a preview of how their smile is expected to develop, and talk you through the treatment plan, timescales and costs.

Your Treatment
Once the plan is agreed, your child’s custom aligners are made to fit their teeth comfortably. At the fitting appointment, we will show you both how to put the aligners in, take them out and keep them clean, and explain how often to move on to the next set. As treatment progresses, the aligners gently guide jaw development and create space for adult teeth to come through. With Dental Monitoring, you can send quick progress scans from home, allowing our team to check treatment remotely and keep time away from school to a minimum.

Your Aftercare
When this first phase of treatment is complete, we will continue to monitor your child’s teeth and jaw as they grow. Depending on their needs, we may recommend a retainer to help maintain their progress while the remaining adult teeth come through. Some children will benefit from a second phase of treatment in their teenage years, and we will let you know if and when this is advised. Regular check-ups ensure your child’s smile stays healthy and develops as planned.
